Habitat
The Forked-leaf sundew is native to a variety of locations ranging from mountain bogs to low-altitude swamps. Despite this ability to adapt geographically, this sundew must be kept constantly wet and in acidic soil, as noted above. Its native habitat is eastern and southeastern Australia and New Zealand.
Description
The leaves are radial and very narrow, with long petioles. They are divided into two long Y-shaped fins. The fins or blades are smooth underneath and have glandular hairs on the upper surfaces and sides. The plant is considered semi-active in that it captures prey by virtue of numerous well-developed tentacles.
Care and Feeding
The Forked-leaf sundew prefers pure sphagnum, pure peat or a mixture of the two. The pH must be acidic between 4.5 and 5.5, and the soil substrate can tolerate addition of river sand, vermiculite or pearlite to give the sphagnum a better consistency.
