Habitat of the Adelae Sundew Carnivorous Plant.
The sundew plant does particularly well in terraria. It’s easier to create a high humidity environment in a terrarium, which can contribute to its prolific growth. The Sundew plant forms flowers in the spring and has an unlimited lifespan. In the wild, this carnivorous species of plants was first found in Australia.
Description of the Adelae Sundew Plant.
In its natural state, the Adelae sundew carnivorous plant lives in marshy, peaty, spongy soils. Indoors, the Sundew plant prefers lots of sunlight, for example in a window-sill. It prefers lots of humidity in the summer, but can be kept less humid in the winter. The glandular hairs on the Sundew leaves turn and fold toward prey to further disable insects. Insects get more tangled as the sticky digestive enzymes on the Sundew plant leaves fold over to further entrap prey. The sticky substance is obviously wet on even the smallest of plants, and almost has the appearance of dew.
Care and Feeding of the Adelae Sundew Plant
The Adelae sundew plant drops seeds at the end of the growing season, which will sprout during the next spring season. This sundew plant is one of the most prolific growers and the small plants growing from the seeds abound after the plant has had a successful summer season. The more insects the Sundew carnivorous plant captures, the larger the leaves will become, and the more seeds will be produced in the next season.
Prey - Insects eaten by the Sundew Plant
Flies and mosquitoes can sometimes be caught by the Sundew, and on rare occasions a small spider. The Sundew stalks can become very large, and the size of prey caught increases proportionately.
